The city of Ibaraki has been urbanized and bifurcated into the mountains in the north and the residential areas in the south. The central part of the city, in particular, has a high density of houses, many narrow streets, and is covered with asphalt. In recent years, there has been a lot of activity in creating places that incorporate greenery, but it is still only greenery for people. Rather than looking at the value of greenery from the vague perspective of comfort, we set our own criteria based on the ecosystem of living things, and from there determine the required area of green space and the site where the greenery should be placed. We will think across a wide range of scales, from the regional scale to the scale of spatial design.
