The architecture of Wanaka was once built by communities to protect their livelihoods and lives from flood damage, and this spirit is still needed today. In my graduation design, I will create a node where history, tourism, livelihood, and nature intersect under the theme of “connecting while protecting. The “wall,” a symbol of Wanaka, will be used as a device to connect people. The vortex of tourism, the vortex of daily life, and the vortex of nature will each intersect to create new relationships. While utilizing the wisdom of the past, we aim to reinterpret the spirit of Wanaka in the modern age and create an architecture that will connect to the future of the region.
